CHP Continues Maximum Enforcement Through Labor Day to Curb Unsafe Driving

Increased Patrols and Sobriety Checkpoints Aim to Reduce Traffic Fatalities

Motorists Encouraged to Exercise Caution and Obey Traffic Laws

In a bid to curb unsafe driving and prevent traffic fatalities during the Labor Day holiday weekend, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has announced that it will continue its maximum enforcement efforts.

From August 26 to September 5, CHP officers will be conducting increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the state.

Last year, there were 42 traffic fatalities in California over the Labor Day weekend, according to the CHP.

To ensure a safe holiday for all, the CHP encourages motorists to:

  • Designate a sober driver or use a ride-sharing service if you plan on drinking alcohol.
  • Obey the speed limit and avoid distractions while driving.
  • Buckle up, every time, every seat.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the CHP.

The CHP reminds the public that impaired driving, speeding, and failure to wear a seat belt are the leading causes of traffic fatalities in California.
